Cleaning Wood Floors

We had the opportunity to seek out professional advise from Watkins Floor Covering located in Surf City, North Carolina and also in Jacksonville. We spoke to Donnie Watkins the owner of Watkins. Watkins floor covering has awesome reviews.

As a cleaning company we always check on the manufactured guidelines on the care of  all types of materials through the home. Even though we only use natural products, we always ask for professional advise.

In our conversation with Donnie, we talked about the use of vinegar and harm chemicals. Because we don’t use any chemicals we wanted to hear what his advise would be. Donnie, suggested a good vacuum with a soft bristle brush. Do not use the agitator on the wood floors. His suggestion is: ” Vinegar can be used, mixed  with water 4:1, or just plain warm water with one or two drops of Dawn.”  If vinegar is used and not diluted enough over time the floors will start to become cloudy and dull looking. The acidity of vinegar will also cause etching.

We also asked Donnie about mopping.. Only use a damp mop on the floors, and never use a steam cleaner on the floors. Never use a  steam cleaner on the floors because it will cause peeling, cracking and cloudiness.

We hope this helps….
