Have you been curious on what those moth-like flies are hanging around the drains in your bathroom.

What is the real name of these flies?

Psychodidae, or commonly called drain flies, sewer flies, filter flies, sewer gnats. ( they do BITE…)

Why are they in the bathroom, sometimes in the kitchen?

Drain pipes are a breeding ground for these flies. Eventually, they make their way up the pipes and fly around the bathroom.

These flies, love stagnant water and the organic material that build up along the sides of the pipe. I have especially, noticed them  during the warm months.

How to get rid of them..

Simplest way to get rid of them is by pouring boiling water down the drain once of twice a week.

Another option is: 1/2 cup of baking soda, with a 1/2 cup of vinegar. Pouring the baking soda in first, slowly pouring the vinegar into the drain on top of the baking soda. Cover the drain and let the solution sit for about 20 minutes. Afterwards, pour boiling water down the drain.
